Leisurely walk from Muizenberg all along the sea side to Kalk Bay. Stop for a well deserved, delicious ice cream in Kalk Bay, before returning via Boyes Drive, taking in magical False Bay views right across to Hangklip.

A walk to the trig beacon on Platberg with some minor scrambling. From there we join the jeep track to the viewpoint. We retrace our steps a short way and take an alternative route back to the start. A R50 permit fee applies.

An interesting scramble route on Table Mountain, mostly shady at this time of year. This traverse starts from the Diagonal path and crosses under the rock bands on Porcupine, Jubilee, Barrier, Valken, Kasteels and Postern, finishing on Woody Buttress.

Hike up to the contour path and walk towards Kirstenbosch. Return to the start point along the cycle track.

A classic scramble up the buttress between Nursery Ravine and Skeleton Ravine. Several tricky and exposed rock pitches. Scrambling experience and a good head for heights are required for this one. Descend via Nursery Ravine.

The route starts halfway up Newlands Ravine from the contour path.  Once you get to the rock band, the climbing doesn’t stop. From here, it’s pretty much continuous scrambling and jumping over rocks to the top of the buttress which is a lot of fun. Scrambling experience and a good head for heights are required for this one. Descend via Newlands Ravine.

GRADE 2A - Weekend

We will arrive on Friday night and check into our own private area of the Cape Agulhas Backpackers in Struisbaai. On Saturday we will hike the incredibly beautiful Rasper Punt Trail (5,5km) climbing one dune to overlook the point where the two oceans meet. An optional swim in the Agulhas rock pools is on the cards, and a visit to Parrie (the resident stingray) in Struisbaai Harbour is a must. Saturday evening we’ll do a traditional yellow tail braai for those who are interested to join. We’ll have a leisurely check out on Sunday and make our way to De Mond Nature Reserve where we will hike the Sterna Trail (7,5km circular route) and finish with a self-catering picnic under the milkwood trees on the Heuningnes River before leaving for Cape Town.

Max 9. A weekend hike for the more adventurous hiker! Arrive early Saturday morning at the Cape Nature Reserve/Cape Canopy Tours offices, then do a zipline induction session, after which we hike to the Landdropskop overnight hut via Sphinx route (+-14km). Sunday morning, we hike down to where the zipline tour start where we drop our backpacks on the 4x4 vehicle and do ziplining instead of hiking down. Cost to be confirmed (Cape Nature Conservation/Wild Card + overnight hut fees + ziplining).
