Part 7/12: Today is a real doozy of a hike covering a lot of ground (16 kms, 945 m elevation gain and 819 m elevation loss). Our morning starts off with the ascent of Noordhoek Peak from the Hout Bay side. Once on the top, we'll duck into Silvermine for a totally different view as we descend on the Wagonwheel Trail to Silvermine Gate 2. From here, we will make short work of Muizenberg Peak before returning to Gate 1 at Silvermine to end today's section. The views today are fabulous. We'll start by looking out over the Atlantic, the middle section will be through Silvermine with views of the surrounding mountains and the end will be looking out over the Deep South. This is the toughest day of the challenge. Car shuttling or Uber will be necessary.
About the 13 peaks: trail runner Ryan Sandes developed a circular route that covers 13 iconic peaks in Cape Town. We will complete the challenge over 7 months. All hikes are open to everyone, whether or not you are doing the challenge. Since not everyone will be available for every peak, Helen will set up a dedicated WhatsApp group for those doing the challenge to coordinate catch up hikes.
Please earmark the Sunday as an alternative hiking day if poor weather is forecast on the Saturday.
