GRADE 3B+, MEDIUM PACE
Part 5/12: Suther Peak has an easier and a more challenging variation. Today, we will tackle the easier variation. Suther Peak is a gem on this side of the world and as you ascend you'll have lovely views of Table Mountain and Lion's Head and down over Sandy Bay. Once we are almost back down, we'll veer off to the right towards East Fort, our end point for the day. Passing through Hout Bay, we'll be able to pick up a gelato or a cup of coffee (or both?). We'll cover 10 kms with 430 m elevation gain and 530m elevation loss. Car shuttling or Uber will be necessary. Those not taking part in the challenge can leave the final road section out and join in for Suther Peak by itself.
About the 13 peaks: trail runner Ryan Sandes developed a circular route that covers 13 iconic peaks in Cape Town. We will complete the challenge over 7 months. All hikes are open to everyone, whether or not you are doing the challenge. Since not everyone will be available for every peak, Helen will set up a dedicated WhatsApp group for those doing the challenge to coordinate catch up hikes.
Please earmark Saturday, 8 August as an alternative hiking day if poor weather is forecast on the Sunday.
Bookings open 2 months before the hike. Bookings close the Friday before the hike at 18h00. No smoking on the hike.
